I am truly blessed. For the past 13 years, I have found a profession that encompasses so many of my interests: study, creating relationships, personal well-being, creativity, and walking alongside people who endeavor health, healing, and personal growth.
My work incorporates influences from several theoretical paradigms but I have come to realize that the core to effective therapy is a strong and trusting relationship between therapist and client. One of the reasons this is important is because dysfunctional relationships are often at the core of our suffering. For many people, healing can begin when we experience a trusting and functional relationship with a therapist who is skilled at unconditional positive regard and the ability to lovingly challenge and confront dysfunctional patterns. Within this working relationship the client can explore deeper issues and learn new ways of coping, living more abundantly and peacefully.
I believe that people have within them the ability to heal but that finding that inner voice is sometimes limited by trauma, grief, stress, and dysfunctional coping skills. I work from a Humanistic-Existential perspective to help my clients find their inner personal truth and express it. Through unconditional positive regard my goal is to guide my clients in self-discovery and healing. I am also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR which assist clients in shifting core self beliefs that are keeping them stuck in dysfunctional patterns of behavior. My work is also highly influenced by attachment theory, trauma informed care, the concept of differentiation, and the powerful research occurring in the field of neuroscience as it relates to mindfulness practice and stress management. I also incorporate somatic and expressive arts techniques.
I am most known for my couple therapy skills and training (I LOVE MY COUPLES!--even the high conflict ones!!). It is challenging work but rewarding. We are built to be in relationship so when our intimate partnership relationship is challenging we will find ourselves compromised as individuals. Prospering in our relationship is vitally important to health. Be warned, marriage therapy and couple counsel isn't easy. I will push you to be a better individual and partner if you select me as your therapist. I use humor, love, teach skills utilizing the Gottman Method and Relational Life Therapy. I am also trained in Emotion Focus Couple Therapy and Developmental Couple Therapy.
In my personal life I treasure the time I spend with my husband and kids. In my spare time I enjoy visits to my families cattle ranch in Modoc County, spending time in spiritual pursuits, and lots and lots of time in my art studio.
